<description>-I had an interesting conversation with a certain elder Universalist (who is sometimes mistaken for Scott). To him, the Winchester Profession was not in his voice. He remembers with fondness the 1930's era unveiling of the Washington Avowal, which he felt spoke more for him as he professed his faith. [factoid - He is a 4th generation Universalist, raised in a church in upstate in NY. This church, interestingly, is in the New York Convention but never joined the UUA. It continues as an independent Universalist church.]

So I'm wondering how we might compare the Winchester Profession and the Washington Avowal. What are the significant differences? Did the Washington Avowal improve on anything? Did the Washington Avowal do any damage to Universalism?

From a poetic point of view, I find the Washington Avowal easier to use in the liturgy. But for me, it is now time to focus on content.

What do you think?
