UniversalistChurch.net future and the Universalist alternative past

Friend and colleague, the Rev. Roger Butts asks about universalistchurch.net, if I’m easing over to the UCC. Fair question.

First, I’ll be keeping it. I host one Universalist (within the UUA) church site there now, and may pick up another. I don’t charge for this and am happy to oblige. More importantly, I have a large collection of Universalist documents I’d like to get back online and they’ll live at universalistchurch.net.

But this goes to the point that, though exiting the fellowship of the Unitarian Universalist Association, I’ll still be a Universalist. Or a universalist. Not sure which, yet. It has been difficult for me to see matters of universal salvation seriously considered and debated in other denominations, but not our own. Indeed, I’m often treated as an anachronism, which is itself insulting. But since the Universalists nearly went into organic union with the Congregationalists, I don’t see it as much of a shift, more of an opportunity.

  1. Scott,
    A great opportunity indeed.

    Thanks for the answer.

As long as Carl Scovel’s Berry Street essay exists, there should be no treating you as an anachronism. But alas. Is it possible, since presumably the UUCF has publishing rights to that essay, that we could put it up on your universalistchurch site and on the uucf site? Speaking of the final reconciliation of all souls with God, have you read much Jurgen Moltmann? Wesley, where I went to school, uses Moltmann a lot. He is doing powerful, hopeful universalist theology. Like him?
    Roger
