[...] Here’s a picture of the Rev. Garrett Hughes, Anglican priest and Wikipedian, wearing a cope (back view) — you’ll recall him from our discussion on the surplice. A lovely vestment and just the thing I’d want to wear, say, for Solemn Evensong (but not the Eucharist) were I an Anglican priest, but not as a substitute for hearty outerware. This is not what I’m talking about. [...]

Interesting website. I am an Episcopalian, and high-church one at that. I am, however, an admirer of the geneva gown when it is done-up right. At the very least , they should be long and bands should be worn. I also like a hood and tippet. I live in an area where the protestant clergy wear geneva gowns rarely, and when they do the results are not pretty. One local Methodist preacher would wear his over a knit open collar shirt. Peter Gomes seems to get it right.

PeaceBang: I've been reviewing some very dear photos from July 5, 2003 where you are wearing your alb (my own memory of the day is pretty scattered) and I think you have a cassock-alb, which I didn't make clear is "outerwear." Or rather, the dispute among those who really hate them is that the cleric should wear a chasuble over them. And I don't truck that.

I would, on the other hand, look like the Michelin man's kid brother ("One Tire") in one. Also, un-made-up persons (men mainly) have have a hard time -- as you said about shirts on your blog -- wearing that much white so close to the face. Can you help us with the various shades of white and off-white with regard to skin tone?

Now, I think you wear a rope cincture, which are the most commom -- often the only option -- cincture available. (Note to those unfamiliar, you tie a half-hitch with the cincture around your waist.) Have you seen cloth cinctures, and what do you think of them?

I look really cute in my alb. I wear it with a white cotton "wifebeater" underneath and I LOVE that it has a belt!
For a 5'3" meatball, that waist definition counts for a lot.
That's all.
