I've also found the Dream in a handy PDF, from York University (in Canada), as part of its nifty little "In parentheses" series: http://www.yorku.ca/inpar/ Look specifically at the "Old English" series for the Rood.

Your post also reminds me of the cross I prefer to wear--an Icelandic one. Fairly pagan. Well, basically a pagan design absorbed by the Icelandic conversion to Christianity. I like that merger of biblical + pagan, and the Rood seems to speak to some of that.
