I like All American Clothing

As regular readers know, I have a commitment to ethical consumption, which means in part a strong bias towards the working conditions of the people who make the things I buy. And today is that made-up sound bite of an observance, Cyber Monday, when people will either shop online or not. But what, if anything, to get?

If the workers can’t freely organize, or are not protected by genuine fair and safe labor laws, or if I don’t have reliable knowledge of the management of a workplace, I will avoid the goods. (Electronics are a tough one, I admit.) In practice, I buy goods from Western countries where possible, with a preference for United States-made goods, union shops or worker-owned businesses and worker cooperatives. Not an easy combo; when I find a vendor I like, I hold to it.

I especially like All American Clothing, especially their casual pants (tan and black) and jeans. Their headline models have a diamond-shaped gusset in the crotch, which really does make them a more comfortable fit — gentlemen, you understand — and the price is decent. The customer service is prompt and efficient and if you’re a member of UnionPlus they offer is discount code.

A downside: they used to offer more union-made items.
