Call me a cynic, but I never put anything past politicians of the political establishment, regardless of their political party. As far as I am concerned, Andrew Young's having whored himself to Wal-Mart is just par for the course, and it didn't surprise me. After all, Hillary Clinton was on the board of directors of Wal-Mart for six years, and Ned Lamont owns some $30,000 of Wal-Mart stock. As for insensitive remarks, remember that his former boss Jimmy Carter, when running for President in 1976, once claimed that neighborhoods should try to keep their "ethnic purity", a remark that he at first defended and only apologized for several days later after the continued uproar.

No, I've never thought Andrew Young is or was white. Mistaken now, but not white. Yes, the reference was to myself.

I too thought you meant Young was white! Moral of the story, watch your grammar and sentence construction.

Now that I've been schoolmarmy, I've been meaning to write and say I appreciate your blog very much. I found a link to it on another blog I read and enjoy your thoughtful comments and also some of the useful links you provide. Thanks, and blessings,

Maybe I’m misreading your post but it appears that you’re stating that Young is white (“As a white, post-segregation Southerner, Young was one of the faces of a proud Georgia and the future.”) Young, of course, is very much black. As a veteran of the civil rights movement and a top lt. of MLK, he has been one of the most prominent African-American figures in the U.S.. Just a typo?
