Treatise on Atonement: chapter three, sections 37 to 41

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Here’s the first installment of typing out the Treatise on Atonement. The breaks are mine to accomodate the inset section headings, and are not in the original. It is public domain, of course, and may be drawn into a text compliation. Dan, this means you.

Treatise type-a-thon

Friday, April 14th, 2006

Scant minutes after I left a comment at Dan Harper’s blog about how difficult it is to gather the troops to type out any Universalist document, and Hosea Ballou’s Treatise on Atonement in particular, he up and posted about how he was typing it out.

More power I say. I wasn’t keen on spearheading this […]

UUCF considers board portfolios

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

I got my copy of the current Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship newsletter (Good News) in the mail yesterday.

Seems the UUCF board has “discussed [and implemented] a model [of leadership] based on the UUMA Exec Board, with board members having defined portfolios.” The four “major portfolios” are Events, Publications, People, and Vision. This is a far […]

Miss Manners on frivolous joys and concerns

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

A buzz went out in the UU ministerial ether. (Were it not a confidential source, I’d make a hat tip. You know who you are.) Seems Judith Martin — everyone’s favorite etiquette columnist, well, mine anyway — as weighed-in on frivolous prayer. The congregation in question could very easily be Unitarian Universalist.

The Chicago Tribune has […]

Easter with the Swedenborgians

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

My constant and local-to-DC readers might be interested to note that I will be preaching this Sunday, Easter, at the Church of the Holy City (Swedenborgian) at 11 am. The church is at the southwest corner of 16th and Corcoran Streets, NW, Washington.

Parking is poor, but there is easy S2 and S4 bus access from […]

“Celebrating Life” best for bookshelf

Friday, April 7th, 2006

One of the things that baffles me is how there is no UUA or UUMA commended special services (aka pastoral offices) book. Perhaps the seminary custom of compiling one makes it a risky proposition.

In any case, one book has been invaluable with my non-church-going grandmother’s simple memorial and the wedding for the coolest couple in […]

Will be out of town

Thursday, April 6th, 2006

I’ll be leaving town tonight and be away — for my grandmother’s memorial service — until Tuesday. I’ve loosened the comment moderation until then, but I know everything won’t be perfect.

Enjoy!

I just did. A test to myself, and a reminder for other WordPress users.

UUA, health insurance, and the UCC

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

I’m really, really, really glad the Compensation, Benefits, and Pension Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Association has worked so hard to get a viable health insurance proposal on the table. I had been riding the UUA about this issue, and assuming it gets the Board’s nod, the churches and particularly the ministers have to judge […]

Moz’s new album fabu

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

Hubby got Morrissey’s new album (released today, er yesterday, April 4) and is true to Il Depresso’s form. A bit less pop-y, though. I love it, love it, love it.

I even love the title.
