OK, another one for the FuglyChalice

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

UUpdater and bunch of others have continued to comment at ChaliceBlog largely in regard to the graphic (de)merits of the new UUA chalice logo.

The thrust of the comments made me think of a certain other religious emblem. Squint. Is it just me?

WP 2.0, not so much

Friday, December 30th, 2005

I’m not so thrilled with the new WordPress version, though bloggers with very little technical skill should find it an improvement, and it has one-step inport from Blogger. Far to WYSIWYG-y for me. Too many little pop-ups. Too many places to scroll. Will look for options to simplify the “write post” page, or look for […]

Bruderhof books

Friday, December 30th, 2005

I wrote a couple of days ago about the Bruderhof sites being taken down. Graham Old, of Leaving Muenster, isn’t criticizing their decision, but notes the loss of the downloadable books, their crowning accomplishment.

And he has them online to download (bless his bandwidth) until he hears from the Bruderhof if he can continue to do […]

How is this great theological endeavor going to happen?

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

The hubbub at Philocrites is getting rather impassioned, and Philo (among others) is trying to get some product out of the desire and frustration. I’m trying not to be jaded, but I’ve heard murmurs like this before, something kinda happened but not really, and then the desire perished in more frustration. Then you notice formerly […]

Scanner up

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

My outbound email is still on the fritz (though I found a workaround) but my scanner is up a working. God knows it took long enough to actually use the Christmas gift Hubby gave me: a Epson Perfection 3490 PHOTO. So Linux has problems with peripherals! Nothing’s perfect. I’m still not sure what I did […]

Can a church blog?

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

I wasn’t sure to write this as a “church websites that use blog software” or “church websites that have syndication feeds” since they’re pretty much one and the same.

Here’s a list of the ones I know about, in alphabetical order by state, province, or non-state federal district whose tax paying citizens have no voting representation […]

WordPress 2.0

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

WordPress 2.0 is out. Up to back up my WordPress installations today or tomorrow, and bring in the new.

For all you WordPress folk out there, feel free to comment about your decisions to upgrade or not, and what you find, here.

Later. Upgraded the main UniversalistChurch.net installation of WordPress. It took about 15 minutes. If you […]

Email down

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Gentle readers and writers — do note my email is acting funny. I can read what comes in, but can’t reply.

Later. I’m back! If you didn’t get an email from me, I didn’t send one!

Bruderhof MIA

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

I used to go regularly to the various Bruderhof websites: they had some of the best designed sites I had ever seen on peacemaking and grief. Their online downloadable books were rich resources with few if any parallels. Their Daily Dig email meditations were welcome and enriching.

Then, without notice, they were all gone, replaced with […]

A different kind of emerging church

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

The Emerging/Emergent church phenom is mature enough to spawn its own internal humor and debates about its next institutional steps. It is hip, and edgy, and mod, and I think I’ve completely lost interest in it. I don’t even have facial hair any more.

This post isn’t about that. No, it is just a list of […]
