That not fresh feeling?

A bit of levity, for the Unitarian Universalists.
Is your meeting house not as fresh as you like?

Accounting for what goes in the library

A big part of what I do at Day Job is a non-profit association’s book marketing: what sells, what doesn’t, what costs us more than it delivers, and other gritty parts of the book trade.
My conclusions, as applied to a denominational or ministry press, are:

Cheap books aren’t worth printing.
Most people don’t appreciate how much [...]

Mariners’ ministry in Hong Hong

I admit to being fascinated with Christian churches in unlikely places, in unusual formats, and under unconventional circumstances. Little wonder that transport chaplaincies appeal. In Hong Kong, four Protestant and Catholic ministry share space with a mariner’s club, which also offers accomodation, recreation, dining, and other resources. A room, dinner, a drink, a quick game [...]

An idea to simplify UUA administration

An idea came up on a Christian Linux mailing list I read: using computer help desk software for church administration. Admittedly, this would be a large church that fields a lot of questions. Who’s the delusional one?

The BBC is hammering away at the situation of New Orleanians where the dead aren’t being gathered and where some continue to stay in their flooded homes; one reporter called the city “delusional.”
Perhaps, perhaps not. While I don’t think I would resist armed troops trying to extricate me, I can see

how some people might value [...]

A rabbi, a priest, an imam, and a minister go to the Astrodome . . . .

If the title sounds like the beginning of an old joke, then it follows a week of the cruelest possible jokes. I suppose some people will find it in poorest taste that a couple of dozen revellers decided to go ahead with Southern Decadence, the “gay Mardi Gras” event, but at least that sounds like [...]
