Clericals watch, or “why bother?”

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

Did anyone else stay up to see Morrissey on David Letterman? The show “ran late” and so all the fans got was a single from his none-too-new CD. But Hubby and I saw him recently in concert, and so of course we were going to catch a reprise. But a word about his costume.

His wearing […]

Protestant divestment?

Sunday, November 14th, 2004

So what’s the news of American Protestant churches and South African-style divestment of Israel?

Seems that there are charges of anti-Semitism (so what’s new there?) and waffling from people who had already made up their minds that investing in companies that benefit the Israeli onslaught of Palestinians might actually be a bad thing.

But it is had […]

Will a gay marriage ban come to DC?

Thursday, November 11th, 2004

Is there no rest or peace in this world?

Isn’t bad enough that we residents of the District of Columbia have few rights the Congress need to respect that we have to face a referendum on defining marriage as “one man and one woman”, too? Thanks to Terrance for the tip.

Board Meeting Rescheduled The DC […]

John Ashcroft gone; a better or worse future?

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

One of the top reasons I wanted Sen. Kerry in office over a return of Pres. Bush is because the latter appointed John Ashcroft as Attorney General. Now he’s gone, and no tears over his gall badder either. It seems to me to be a perfect illness for such a man as he.

But Demosthenian […]

Firefox 1.0 released

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

I love Firefox — surfing without popups, better security control, and the joy of browsing with tabs –

You might have heard about the big Firefox release yesterday. Download a copy for yourself, using the link on the left.

Unsure of what to get for your untechy relatives who have everything: consider installing Firefox for your family. […]

More on Menzies Raynor

Saturday, November 6th, 2004

There are two copies of Menzies Rayner’s Universalist Manual, or Book of Prayer on Ebay. Both the 1853 edition. Perhaps it wasn’t as rare as its thin treatment or omission from the standard histories suggests.

Some quick Googling suggests that Menzies Rayner started out as an Episcopal priest — certainly his prayerbook reflects this inheritance […]

Progressive Christian Unitarian Universalists

Friday, November 5th, 2004

I got an email from one of the organizers of a new (post-election) organization, Progressive Christian Unitarian Universalists, looking for a link.

You got it.

As you might suspect, the site is a touch green but is still worth reading. (The future promise of a blog is quite encouraging.)

Send the organizers a word of encouragement while you’re […]

To revive

Friday, November 5th, 2004

A quick word of recognition to all my friends in Worcester for the UUCF Revival conference! Wish I were there.

No, I don’t want to play a game or take that pill

dlature at Movable Theoblogical is having spam problems. Me, too, and I’ve found that WordPress’s mass comment editing — while a clean-up solution rather than a preventative — has served me better than Blacklist did when I ran MovableType.

Be there was also a question on that entry about obscuring email addresses. I use to […]

The devil

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004

After watching several hours of Hell in a Handbasket 2004, I think I need a good long rest before commenting.

Demosthenians, note: for the first time since leaving active Society membership, I found myself scribbling down notes for a speech (as opposed to a sermon.) Shame that there’s no table from which to give it.
