Encouragement from the Disciples

Monday, October 18th, 2004

I got my M.Div. from Brite Divinity School, Texas Chrisitian University. It is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A good denomination, but one that after years of decline didn’t seem to have much of a future. Perhaps it still has hard days ahead, but it does have a plan to grow.

Witness New […]

That Windsor Report

Monday, October 18th, 2004

Well, it seems that the folks in Canterbury didn’t quite anticipate the demand for the report that is the attention of the world’s Anglicans (and ecumencially minded Christians) because their server is swamped.

Wire stories don’t have any details yet (the report was released about a half hour ago) so many of us will have to […]

Thinking through automating the small church office

Sunday, October 17th, 2004

As I say in the title, I want to pay some attention to automating as many of the mechanical functions of the church office using open-source software. It looks like all the pieces are out there, but that they need to be integrated. I’m want to help small churches first, since they’re the […]

Back to reviewing UUA membership stats

Sunday, October 17th, 2004

Earlier this year, as congregations were getting certified for General Assembly, I organized a spreadsheet with each member-congregation’s stats. I came up with some very illuminating conclusions.

Then, I had a major computer meltdown. I was sure I had backed up that file, but was unable to find it. It took a long time to compile, […]

More on Wiki

Philocrites , when carrying on my reportage of the newish UU Wiki, noted “because I can’t quite get my head around the uses of this technology.” That deserves a reply.

Consider the UUA’s Worship Web, which Philo knows very well. It says it is still being developed, but I rather doubt much happens to it any […]

UU Wiki

Thursday, October 14th, 2004

There’s an emerging Unitarian Universalist wiki (read: the now and next big thing for cooperative work on the internet; the biggest one is the ultra-helpful Wikipedia)

So far, it mostly has information from a few UUA sponsored mailing lists, but it rests on the same software as Wikipedia, so it has the power to grow to […]

Funny, he’s taller on television

Monday, October 11th, 2004

Yesterday, after services, I quipped to Hubby: “New Hampshire’s a small state; maybe they only need a small bishop.”

The reference was, of course, to the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, and if you’re reading this blog, you know who he is. Hubby’s rector, it turns out, is an old friend of this bishop whose public stature […]

Three things.

It is right to highlight the good works of one’s colleagues.
I love a travelogue.
I want to get legally married one day.

Read Riding with the Rev. — John Millspaugh: “From Oct. 4-11, along with Rev. Helen Carroll and 46 others, aboard the National […]

Cleaning up

Wednesday, October 6th, 2004

I’m having of a devil of a time figuring out why my RSS, RSS2, and Atom feeds don’t work. This is all the more problematic since I started using Firefox at home and work. And I really want to use the feeds feature that makes that browser special.

Until then, I’m using the default set-up.
