“It’s a lot like life”

Monday, February 16th, 2004

David at Facilitating Paradox has been ruminating on lordship - both feudal and divine - and now I’ve got Depeche Mode’s “Master and Servant” running through my head.

His points are poignant for all who have trouble with the Lord: either the word, or God.

For my part, I used to try to loosen some tongues […]

Say welcome to “Call and Response”

Monday, February 16th, 2004

Call and Response is the newest Unitarian Universalist blogger; be sure to give her a warm welcome.

This despite the generally sour interpretation of blogging on today’s front page of AnglicansOnline (We’ll show them this is a lasting and meaningful medium!)

Major web rebuild; new blog

Sunday, February 15th, 2004

In the next three weeks, I’m going to use what I’ve learned and rebuild my web presence in valid XHTML, using CSS. It hope to give my web-ministry a good foundation for growth.

I’ll incorporate my winchesterprofession.org, uuchristian.org and unitarianuniversalist.org projects here, and, because this blog has grown so much, I’ve decided to split it.

My new […]

Models, case studies, and prospectuses

Sunday, February 15th, 2004

In an earlier entry, I said I needed models for new start churches. I knew I had seen them, but wasn’t sure where.

I found the source again: NewChurches.com

Most are in “research” but several more are peppered through the site. It is worth a look.

Emerge, submerge?

Sunday, February 15th, 2004

Do a quick Google search on “emerging church” and you’ll find more content and less information than you can hope for what is broadly called postmodern Christianity. As a jaundiced observer, it seems mainly to do with guys with van Dykes in their twenties (or thirties, passing for twenties) with a penchant for illegible grey […]

Naming a church

Sunday, February 15th, 2004

A friend asked what I might name my church, if it gets going.

I have ideas - I’ll keep them close to my chest for the meantime - but it would have two names, and two web domains. Neither will be that ubiquitous mouthful “The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of [Several Counties].”

One would be its final name, […]

Saints: Valentine, Cyril, and Methodius

Saturday, February 14th, 2004

Sure: today is Saint Valentine’s Day. Love, love, love.

I won’t write much because I meed to get on with a little romantic brunch, so see the listing at the Patron Saints Index. An excerpt:

Others maintain that the custom of sending Valentines on 14 February stems from the belief that birds begin to pair on […]

Best church website in the UUA?

Saturday, February 14th, 2004

I didn’t go back and view all the non-tiny UU churches to find the best larger-than-tiny UU church website, but I may have stumbled over it. (My opinion for best tiny UU church website.)

It puts a visitor’s needs up at the top, gives me the information and images I want (in the amount I need), […]

New Unitarian churches: Norway and Burundi

Friday, February 13th, 2004

Webwatchers have known that Norway has long had a Unitarian advocate in Knut but now there’s a website for the Unitarian Christian Church in Norway (English and Norwegian).

And Burundi? The Unitarian Fraternity in Bordeaux, France scooped the Internet (I think) with news about Unitarian Christians in that southern African country. The news (in French) in […]

Faith? Order?

Friday, February 13th, 2004

As I continue talk about starting a new church (indeed, what else of import have I really done since I started this blog?) I’ll be throwing out a lot of concepts, some of which make liberals and polity-congregationalists uneasy. Some are just unfamilar, and these are ideas that can be summed up as “faith and […]
